Our History

Gannet Shipping Limited was formed in 2007, At the time we employed 4 staff  who between them had about 100 years experience in port operations and ship management.  The two principals were both Master Mariners.  In 2007 we were primarily operating as Supercargos on log vessels loading in New Zealand ports. Since that time, and despite periods of downturn in the log trade, Gannet Shipping has experienced sustained and steady growth and now employs 6 staff.  We are still primarily Supercargos in New Zealand ports but we have expanded the scope of our operations in several directions, such as:

      - We have completed regular short term contracts as Vessel Planners for a major
        NZ based forestry company

     - One of our Directors was appointed "Head of Delegation" to the IMO in 2011
for the revision of the IMO Timber Deck Code (IMO 1048(27)).

      - Acted as consultants on the design of decks and holds, ballast arrangements and
stability criteria of a series of new buildings for three different owners. (Some
of this work is still on-going)

      - Carried out training seminars for certain owners and stevedoring companies
(Some of this work is still on-going)

We believe that with our wide range of skills and experience we can add value to any business process.  We have staff that have worked in every step of the supply chain, from growing and harvesting trees, transporting them to the port, Managing the port operations, loading and securing the cargo on board, commanding the ships that trasport them across the seas, discharging and selling forest products in various Asian destinations and in carrying out the various documentation to allow these processes to function.  Amongst our staff we have people that speak several Indian languages, Spanish, Tagalog, Korean and French.  While the majority have marine qualifications as Master or Chief Officer we also have others that have long experience as Agents and Stevedores, Managing IT Operations and Trucking fleets.
